Frequently Asked Questions
All About Louisa Elizabeth
Yes! Every single map begins as a hand-drawn illustration by me. What started in 2014 as a personal hunt for a beautiful travel map has grown into this business. I wanted to make a pin board map that allowed you to document and keep a record of all your memories, while also having a beautiful piece of art for your walls.
It’s a team effort! I illustrate every design myself in my garden studio. Once you place your order, I work closely with my expert British framers to have your map professionally mounted and framed to order. Because it’s a family-run business, every single map is checked by a real person who cares about the details as much as you do.
Yes, and I’m so proud of that. We are a small British business through and through. Every map is handmade with pride right here in the UK by skilled craftsmen who share my obsession with quality. From the first sketch to the final pin in the frame, it’s all genuine British craftsmanship.
Personalising Your Map
It’s a beautiful way to tell your life story! I print your chosen design onto premium Epson 189gsm paper and mount it onto a sturdy, high-density foamboard. It’s designed to be interactive; you can push pins in to celebrate where you’ve been and dream about where you’re going next.
Absolutely. If you’re feeling a bit nervous about how your text will look, just tick the "Request a Digital Proof" box at checkout. I’ll email you a digital copy of your artwork so you can check the layout. You even get one free round of changes to the personalisation just to make sure it’s 100% perfect.
I love a challenge! Whether it’s a specific postcode for a housewarming gift or a specific country you spent your honeymoon travelling around. I’m always happy to discuss a custom commission. Just drop me a message on my contact page and we can chat about your ideas.
Choosing Your Frame & Pinning
It really comes down to how you like to pin!
- Our Standard Frames (No Glazing): These have an open front, so you can keep your map on the wall and add pins whenever the mood strikes.
- Our Box Frames (With Glazing): These have a premium Clarity+ glazed front which looks beautiful and can be wiped clean. Because there’s glazing in the way, you just pop the back off the frame (like a normal picture frame) to add your pins.
It’s much easier than you might think!
- Lay the frame face-down on a clean, soft surface.
- Bend back the little tabs and remove the backing board.
- Take your map out, add your pins, and then pop it all back together.
I include a handy instruction leaflet in every order to walk you through it!
Every framed map arrives with a complimentary box of 100 pins in an assortment of six colours, so you can start marking your adventures the moment you unbox it.
Of course! If you’ve been particularly busy exploring, you can grab extra boxes of matching pins in all sorts of colours right here.
Shipping & Delivery
Yes, we love seeing Louisa Elizabeth maps find homes all over the world! International shipping rates and delivery times are calculated automatically at checkout based on your specific location.
I’ve teamed up with expert British framers who have spent over 15 years perfecting their packaging. Your map is suspended in a clever "smart box" with a car-style crumple zone that absorbs any bumps in the road. It’s very sturdy!
We generally use Royal Mail, DPD, or DX. As soon as your map is ready and out the door, I’ll send you a tracking link so you can follow its journey.
Because I don't "mass produce" and every map is made-to-order just for you, it takes a little time to get the details right. At the moment, it usually takes about 10 days for your map to be designed, handmade, and delivered to your door.
Care & Maintenance
Keep it Dry: Your map is printed on premium paper and cannot be wiped with liquids.
Handle with Care: Always ensure your hands are clean and dry before touching the map surface.
Framing Later: If you bought an unframed map and change your mind, we sell frames designed specifically to fit our pin boards perfectly.
The Nitty-Gritty
I take great care with every single order, but if something isn’t quite right, please don't worry. Get in touch with me within 24 hours of delivery at hello@louisaelizabeth.com. Please include your order number and a few photos of the map and the packaging so I can help solve it for you as quickly as possible.
If you’ve requested a proof, we can tweak your text then. If not, please email me immediately. Because I move quickly to get your hand-drawn designs into production, I can only make changes if the map hasn't been sent to print yet.
Because each map is uniquely made for you, I can’t accept returns unless the item is faulty. If there is a problem, please just reach out and I will do my absolute best to put it right.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, or these answers haven’t quite solved your query, please do reach out to me at hello@louisaelizabeth.com where I’d be very happy to help!
